My direction started in a dark place. I was thinking about the common mechanism that runs throughout the work of Phillip K. Dick where an alternate reality sits next to our own. Alternate realities where one pivotal historical event is changed, and the timeline diverges into dark territory.
In this case, it was a great premise for a series of ads for SweeTango apples. With a handful of famous apple stories, I directed my team to work on a series of moments in history (Issac Newton and the Apple, William Tell) and show that if the apple involved was a SweeTango, it would be devoured before it could make its impact because of how desirable it was.
